Westville couple celebrates 50 years of wedded bliss

Happy 50th wedding anniversary Rajin and Geetha Sheodin.

WESTVILLE residents, Rajin and Geetha Sheodin will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, December 18.

After dating for three years, the couple tied the knot at the Bethesda Full Gospel Church in Durban in 1971. Rajin grew up in KwaDabeka.

“It was a small community farm back then. My wife was raised in Chatsworth and I knew her through her brother, where we worked together at a shoe factory,” he said.

“At that time she was still a young girl and, after some years, I joked and mentioned to her brother that his sister must be grown up now and he needs to set up a meeting for him to meet with his family. That is where our love journey started,” laughed Rajin.

“I believe our union was just meant to be as I saw light through him whenever he came to visit my family,” said the down-to-earth Geetha.

Rajin said they did face some challenges as he is a Christian and Geetha’s family was Hindu.

Geetha and Rajin Sheodin tied the knots on December 18 1971.

“Because of the love we shared, and our strong bond, we got married and have been happily married for the past 50 years. What I admire most about my wife is that she is humble,” smiled Rajin.

After all the challenges and struggles, looking back, they feel blessed. “I made the right choice. My husband is a hard working human being and very supportive, not only to his family,” said Geetha.

The Sheodin’s have worked hand in hand in their family business and, now that they spend most of their time in their home, they mentioned that they enjoy working in the garden, which is blooming with various fruit trees and other plants.

The couple have four children, six grandchildren and added that their recipe for their lasting marriage is that they put God first.
