Monkey baby season in full swing, CROW needs your help

To date, the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife has rescued 11 Vervet monkey babies.

THE Vervet monkey baby season is in full swing and the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) has, so far, rescued 11 babies.

This year, the centre said it chose to go with a Disney theme to name all of the Vervet monkey babies in its care.

“This group of five consists of Rue, who came all the way from Hluhluwe after his mom died. Rue was being sold in a spaza shop, but a resident confiscated him,” said CROW’s operations director, Clint Halkett-Siddall.

Another baby, Sid, was brought in after his mom was hit and killed by a car. Halkett-Siddall said the first girl that was rescued was found on a wall, abandoned by her troop. She was named Mulan.

Among the group, there is Baloo, who was also abandoned and fell off a roof.

Last but not least, CROW’s latest addition is Jafar. He was found a few days ago, calling for his mom, with no troop in site.

“With the help of Free Me Wildlife, we were able to give him a second chance at life. This group is doing incredibly well and has now moved off the bottle onto a bowl, which is much better for a hands-off approach at rehabilitation,” said Halkett-Siddall.
