eThekwini inaugural meeting ends prematurely

THE inaugural meeting of the eThekwini Municipality Council had to be adjourned this afternoon due to power failure in the venue where it was being held.

In this meeting, held at Moses Mabhida Stadium, the voting for the City’s mayor was scheduled to take place.

According to the City, teams were working to restore power, but the meeting was also disrupted by a group of individuals.

“The municipality is investigating how the security controls were breached,” said the City in a statement.

It said the newly elected Speaker, Thabani Nyawose, will reconvene the meeting in due course.
