According to the chairman of the association, Mandlakhe Nene, the deceased, Sibukeli Shangase, owned taxis, was the public relations officer, and a member of the Molweni and Nqetho Taxi Associations.

Another individual was injured in the ordeal.

“We are still shocked by this tragedy. We are aware of issues within the taxi industry, especially in Molweni, but we don’t know if this killing is related,” said Nene.

The regional chairman of the Durban West Region Taxi Association, Mathula Mkhize has condemned the incident.

“Shooting of any member has never solved any issue. Meetings and engagements have given solutions to any problem, if there are any,” he said.

He further stated that killing operators (owners) has never given business to the taxi industry.

Mkhize said he will engage with the association on Monday.
