It was reported that the 23-year-old Jessica left her apartment on Pickering Street, near South Beach, in Durban at about 17:30 on Sunday, November 1.

She was heading in the direction of Smith Street to visit a client. Jessica never returned home. She was living with her boyfriend at the time.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele reported that a woman’s mutilated body was discovered by community members at a sports field in Newtown A, Inanda on Monday, November 2.

After a missing bulletin for Jessica was widely circulated on the internet, the woman’s body found in Inanda was positively identified as Jessica by her mother, Leanne, at the Phoenix Mortuary on Tuesday, November 3.

Jessica’s throat was lacerated (slit) and her hands were severed.

A case of murder was opened at the Inanda Police Station. According to Jessica’s mother, police informed her that they were questioning a few people after the case was opened, but there has been no progress in the investigation since. The mother said she is still awaiting the autopsy results from Inanda Police Station.

“They always make excuses,” said the bereaved mother.

Leanne said her daughter’s tragic death has left her broken as she battles to understand how it all happened.

“A year later and we are still devastated. All we want are answers, some sort of closure and justice for Jessica,” she added.

When the murder investigation commenced, police suggested that Weyer’s body was dumped in the field subsequently to her murder, and there was a strong possibility that she could have been killed at a different location.

To date, there have been no answers or feedback from the investigating officer at Inanda police station.

Captain Nqobile Gwala, the spokesperson for KZN SAPS, said a case of murder is still being investigated by Inanda SAPS after the body of a woman was found at Inanda Newtown A on 2 November 2020.

“The matter is still under investigation, no arrests made,” said Gwala.

She did not disclose any details of the investigating officer.
