ETHEKWINI residents can access burial records digitally with the introduction of the SmartMun Cemetery Manager software. It was introduced by the City to store burial information.
Burial records can now be found within minutes upon request as opposed to the previous longer waiting periods. The software combines elements of electronic record keeping, workflow management, and built-in checks and balances to make it easier for residents to access burial records and to book for burials or cremations.
This smart digital move will improve service delivery and streamline interactions with registered undertakers. The acting head of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit, Vusi Mazibuko said this is a smart move for the City.
“The software will make the process easier for the public to access documents without having to travel long distances to look for information that can be retrieved easily online,” he said.
The municipality is in the process of introducing the e-government portal where the public will be able to search for burial records through the municipal website.
The system will assist residents to locate graves, using modern devices such as smartphones.
