6 wanted Pinetown robbers arrested in Gauteng

The six men, aged between 24 and 38, will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court and will face charges of house robbery, armed robbery, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

AN intelligence driven operation, conducted by Pinetown detectives, led to the arrest of six wanted suspects in Gauteng.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Captain Bongumusa Manqele said the police were tailing the gang after a spate of armed robberies and house breakings in Pinetown in October.

“Investigation led the detectives to Benoni, where the suspects were appearing for other cases,” he said.

According to Manqele, the suspects will be linked to two cases that took place in Wyebank earlier in October.

“The one incident happened on October 5. A man was walking out of his yard in Circle Gardens, going for a morning jog when he was confronted by five armed men who were travelling in a white VW Polo,” said Manqele.

They forced the man back into his yard and demanded the car keys to a parked VW Polo. The vehicle belonged to a hiring company. At gunpoint, they forced him into the bedroom and ransacked the home. They stole household items and cellphones before they fled.

The following day, two armed suspects invaded a home in Wyebank. A woman was at home, sitting in the lounge.

”They instructed her not to make any noise, before proceeding to the bedroom. They found her mother and grabbed a cellphone from her hand. They also took an LG TV and fled the scene in a white VW Polo,” said Manqele.
Following these incidents, and many others that used the same modus operandi in Pinetown, Manqele said the police were tracking these suspects. The men were arrested in Benoni for the possession of stolen property, including the vehicle that was stolen from Wyebank.

“One firearm was also recovered during the arrest,” he added.

The suspects will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon for various charges of house robbery, armed robbery, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
