Westville learner honours father’s goal

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s Grade 11 learner, Heath Delport is proof that if you set your mind to do something, it can be done.

The sportsman also took up badminton as well, putting his heart and soul into achieving in this sport as a tribute to his dad, Edwin. His father was pursuing a goal to be ranked as the top player in the country, but was injured and had to give up playing.

“At the recent SA U17 Championships and inter-provincials, Heath took first place in the doubles, second place in the singles, contributed to the KZN U17 team’s gold medal and made the SA National U17 squad in the process.

“Heath is ranked second in SA for the boys’ singles and doubles, and third for mixed doubles,” said the school’s communications manager, Lyndy Coombe.

KZN provincial coach, Ivan Botha said this was a phenomenal result for Heath.

“He played extremely well throughout the tournament, winning most of his games in the team events and doing very well in the open championships. We are excited for his badminton career. He is definitely someone who is going to achieve amazing results in the future,” said Botha.
