Watch this space-Highway Mail offices gets ‘artsy’ face-lift

Two amazing local artists, Brendan Lyle (AKA Uno Bear) and Jade Pieters will be working on the funky and fun mural.

INDUSTRIAL Parks are usually all about red brick and steel frames, but that’s about to change for the Highway Mail offices as a fun mural will soon be added to the front exterior of the building.

“Working in the industrial area of New Germany is not the most exciting of areas to work in. We run a publishing and printing business and multi-media is our game,” said the business manager for Caxton Durban, Nicole Vosser.

The Highway Mail office is home to The Highway Mail, Berea Mail, Northglen News, Eyethu Newspapers, Queensburgh News and the Get It Magazine.

According to Vosser, it dawned on her that it was important for the staff to arrive at this building feeling enthused and creative for the day ahead.

“And what better way to add a splash of colour, funkiness and fun to what has always been quite a ‘drab’ old building,” she added.

The mission of Caxton Durban & Highway Printers is to inspire and nurture the ‘Caxton Human Spirit’.

“We create a better everyday life for the people in our workplace. We strive to make our workplace a positive and friendly, one where honesty, trust, integrity, accountability and responsibility characterise our work ethic. We embrace our differences, share our joys and sorrows and never forget that working in the media is creative, madness and, most importantly, fun,” said Vosser.

Vosser and her team searched far and wide for the most talented graffiti artist to take on the challenge and finally found local artist, Brendan Lyle (AKA Uno Bear) and Jade Pieters.

“Painting on bricks is always exciting, it’s also quite big and I love big murals. Plus, it’s high up, very visible and on the newspaper building, so that’s always great!” said artist Lyle.

Lyle has been painting wall murals for five years now and promises visitors and staff a striking and fun piece with a lot of freestyle lettering.

He will start working on the mural soon and readers can look forward to the great reveal in weeks to come. ”Watch this space: a lift in everyone’s spirits as they arrive to work each morning is on its way due to the magic of art!” Vosser added.
