Premier opens Westville’s multi-million rand road upgrade project

The road opening was held in conjunction with the launch of the October Transport Month campaign.

KWAZULU-Natal’s premier, Sihle Zikalala and the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni officially opened the R105m King Cetshwayo Highway/Essex Terrace Interchange Improvement infrastructure project.

The opening, on Sunday, October 3, was in conjunction with the official launch of the October Transport Month Campaign. Construction to upgrade and expand the M13 and Essex Terrace interchange started in 2020.

According to the Department of Transport, the project was triggered by new and future developments in the area that include the Westwood Shopping Centre, residential developments near the shopping centre, student accommodation and the rezoning of residential properties to businesses.
