WATCH: Queensburgh woman reunites with dogs after 4-month search

The reunion at the Kloof and Highway SPCA was filled with tears and laughter and lots of wagging tails.

IT was a tearful and a happy reunion at the Kloof and Highway SPCA when a Queensburgh resident was reunited with her two dogs that went missing on June 5.

Kloof SPCA’s manager, Barbara Patrick said the two dogs, Bailey and Chino, were brought into the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s main reception on Monday, September 27.

“The person who brought them said the two dogs had been wandering around the Westville Prison area for some time. According to the finder, the dogs had been living with someone close by, but that those ‘owners’ no longer wanted them and so he decided to bring them in to our SPCA,” said Patrick.

Upon admission, the SPCA staff immediately recognised the two dogs and Naidoo, the owner of Bailey and Chino, was contacted immediately. She did not hesitate at the prompt to collect her fur babies.

“Our staff waited excitedly for her to arrive. We had all spoken to Naidoo many times as she called and visited looking for her dogs, never giving up hope that they would be found,” said Patrick.

When the owner arrived at the SPCA reception, she was inconsolable. Naidoo hugged a staff member, overwhelmed with emotion as she would soon reunite with the two dogs she spent the last four months searching for.

“Bailey and Chino, who were just on the other side of the gate, and when they heard her speaking, they recognised her voice and cried to see her. What a tearful and happy reunion it was between Naidoo, her daughter and their fur babies. The reunion was filled with tears and laughter and lots of wagging tails,” said Patrick.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA urged the public to take local strays to the nearest SPCA, or have them checked for a microchip. They urged the finder to also fill out a ‘found dog report’.

“Both Bailey and Chino were microchipped. Had the person who found them, and had them all this time, contacted our SPCA, or taken them to their local vet to be checked for a microchip, they could have been reunited sooner,” said Patrick.
