Westville boys help feed the homeless

The learners use their time and resources to make sandwiches for the homeless in Pinetown.

EVERY week Westville Boys’ High School’s Interact Team use their time and resources on a Thursday afternoon to make sandwiches for the homeless in Pinetown.

Under the selfless leadership of teacher in charge, Henriette Egan, this commitment truly makes a difference and goes a long way to help those in need.

“Mevrou Egan is truly an inspiration to these students, she’s been volunteering with us for years, an amazing teacher, a phenomenal woman,” said Steph Amod, who along with husband Hoosen and a few volunteers runs the feeding programme, El Gibbor Kitchen 3610.

Steph said she was truly proud and inspired by these young boys.

“Not many realise the work behind the scenes, or the cost that comes with it. Our pictures only show food being served but all the work that comes with it is great,” she said.

Through their feeding programme, the Amods currently assists the community with grocery hampers or a cooked meal.

“Many people have lost their jobs and have found it extremely hard after the looting. We feed about 50 homeless people each Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Every second Saturday we have been giving hot meals such as biryani to the community of Pinetown to about 20 to 30 families,” added Steph.

If you want to help with a cooked meal or grocery hampers, contact Steph on 084 081 9130 or email Sayhi@elgibborkitchen3610.co.za.
