WATCH: Kloof SPCA rescues cat stuck in a tree for a week

The distressed feline was reported to have gone missing on August 26.

A BLACK and white cat, that was reported missing on August 26, was found stuck in a tree on Saturday, September 4 in Kloof. The Kloof and Highway SPCA was called in to help retrieve the desperate feline.

“I saw a message on my neighbour group about a cat that needed to be rescued out of a tree as it had been there for a week. I immediately offered assistance,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s Brigitte Ferguson.

Inspector Petros Simamane, field officer Doctor Mthombeni and Ferguson headed to the scene.

“It was not an easy rescue as the cat was at the top of a Yucca plant and this was against a wooden fence that was not stable, so we were unable to use our long ladder,” said Ferguson.

Equipped with numerous gadgets for various rescue scenarios, along with the home owner’s pool net, Simamane and Mthombei were able to reach the distressed cat.

“The cat was calling and we were sure that it knew everyone was there to rescue it,” said Ferguson. “Simamane and Mthombei worked together gently using our net and a control pole to try and coax the cat, it took some time and thankfully the cat was rescued and immediately put safely into a cage.”

A lost report for a black and white cat had been received on September 6 and it noted that the feline had been missing since August 26.

The cat was taken to the Kloof and Highway SPCA. It was uninjured but was thin and hungry. It was given a bowl of food and water and soon after was collected by its grateful owners.

“The ladies came in to see if it was their cat and it was their Oliver! He was so happy to see them and even happier to be reunited with his brother when they got home,” said Ferguson.

The family is excited to be reunited with their cat, Oliver.

If a pet is missing, residents are urged to inform the Kloof and Highway SPCA immediately. To report any animals in need of help, contact the local non-profit organisation on 031 764 1212.
