Two arrested for hijacking delivery truck

The truck was enroute to Johannesburg to deliver tyres.

TWO suspects, aged 29 and 34, were arrested by Pinetown police following the hijacking of a truck that was enroute to Johannesburg to deliver tyres.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the truck driver was travelling along the M7 to join the N3 highway to Johannesburg, on Sunday, August 22, when he noticed a vehicle following him. According to the victim, the driver of the vehicle overtook him and came to a halt in front of him.

“The three men jumped inside the truck and forced the driver to the backseat. The truck travelled for a short distance before it stopped and the driver was beaten up and left on the roadside.

“A case of truck jacking was opened for investigation at Pinetown SAPS,” said Manqele.

Manqele said with the help of police officers from various stations, two suspects were arrested in the Umzinto policing area on Monday, August 23.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
