Game stores offer 10% discount to vaccinated customers

Vice president of marketing at Game, Katherine Madley said that the discount was not an incentive but a way to say thank you.

AS a token of appreciation to shoppers who have played their part in keeping South Africa safe, Game stores will be offering a 10% discount to customers who have vaccinated against Covid-19.

This was confirmed by Brian Leroni, Massmart Senior Vice President Group Corporate Affairs, on Tuesday.  Leroni said the offer would only be available on Vax Appreciation Wednesday’s campaign and discounts are capped at R10 000.

“Game is offering a 10% discount on customer purchases. Customers would need to produce proof of vaccination (Vaccination Cards) and their personal identity documents in order to qualify for the discount,” said Leroni.

Meanwhile, vice president of marketing at Game, Katherine Madley said that the discount was not an incentive but “to say thank you for the role they are playing in keeping our stores, and Mzansi safe.”

“We absolutely respect people’s freedom of choice to receive the Covid-19 vaccination, and by no means oblige our customers to share their vaccination status with us. However, we have seen first-hand the effect Covid has had on the consumer budget and lifestyle and aim to support South Africa and its people in the recovery from this. This is our way of thanking customers for making our stores safe,” said Madley

She further said as a responsible retailer, Game was committed to creating a better life for all South Africans and the health and safety of their staff and customers remained top priority. “We believe in the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccination in keeping our stores safe and comfortable for our shoppers.”

Between August 18 and September 15, any shopper who produces their vaccination record card and ID or passport at a till point across Game’s 118 stores network will be eligible for the discount, including those who have already had their first and second doses.

Last month, fast-food chain Wimpy announced its #CupsForVacs campaign where customers can present their vaccination cards to get a free filter coffee. The initiative applied to all Wimpy outlets in more than 450 locations and the offer was only valid within 48 hours.
