Matthew’s successes continue to add up

Westville Senior Primary School's SPAR Star of the Month - July 2021.

MATTHEW de Gryse is Westville Senior Primary’s SPAR Star of the Month.

Matthew’s teachers describe him as a conscientious and diligent learner who consistently achieves a sound balance between academics and sport.

Matthew recently participated in the KZN Squash Trials and was selected for the KZN U13 team. He looks forward to playing in the Inter-provincial Tournament later on in the year.

Matthew also enjoys other sports such as cricket, golf and hockey. He said that sport is a wonderful outlet for healthy competition and provides an excellent opportunity to play against (during practices) and alongside friends (in a match situation).

His role model is the South African golfer, Louis Oosthuisen, because of his determination and skill on the international golf circuit.

Matthew’s family enjoy holidays in the mountains of the Drakensberg and in game reserves that provide opportunities for camping in the bush and seeing wild animals in their natural habitat.

The Grade 6 learner’s favourite subjects are mathematics and science and, when he completes school, he would like to study accounting and become a chartered accountant, following in the footsteps of both of his parents.
