Do not buy Sassa cards on social media – warns Hillcrest SAPS

The stolen cards have no value as they are immediately deactivated.

HILLCREST police have appealed to the public to report anyone who tries to sell them the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards.

The station’s Communications Officer, Capt. Linzi Smith said the plea comes after Sassa warned the public to be aware of fraudsters selling Sassa cards on social media.

“The stolen cards are sold for different amounts of money by the scammers. Any person found in possession of these cards will therefore be linked to a criminal case,” said Smith.

She warned the public that the stolen cards were immediately deactivated and are worthless. “So the public should not to be tempted to try to buy them as they are useless,” she added.
