Salute SA’s frontline workers with Frontline Friends’ online initiative

Highway residents can now add their letter of support for frontline workers via the Frontline Friends organisation's Mandela Day campaign.

IN celebration of Mandela Day, Frontline Friends encourages Highway residents to honour a frontline worker with a message of thanks.

The organisation, which launched earlier this year, in partnership with Leaven Raising, said July 18 will mark 500 days since this first confirmed Covid-19 case in the country (March 5 2020).

“Through the first and second waves of this devastating pandemic, our frontline medical workers have stood strong. Despite their harsh and traumatic experiences, they have never given up, never complained and continue to take incredible care of their patients. While we brace for the effects of the third wave, we know that they will continue to be brave putting their own lives at risk to save others,” said Leaven Raising’s Jenna Hardman.

Frontline Friends recognise that ‘the frontline’ consists of more than medical staff and includes many unsung community heroes, including paramedics, firemen and those in food distribution.

“This Mandela Day, we’d like you to take moment to honour a frontline worker. A dedication, an acknowledgment, a thank you. We know that this may be done in celebration of life, or of a life lived.”

The NPC delivers gratitude gifts for medical workers and a message of thanks is always attached.

“We find that this added touch is what makes a heartfelt difference. If you have a minute to spare, and you’d like to send a personal message of thanks, now you can,” said Hardman. “It’ll take you 67 seconds to thank them for their 500 days and counting.”
