WATCH: Malvern family dedicates mural to community heroes

The mural has already gone viral with the image being shared across various social media platforms.

A MALVERN family has paid tribute to communities across Durban who have protected their stores and neighbourhoods from the ongoing unrest in the province.

Candice Leth, her daughter Sinead and her boyfriend Brendan Lyle (Uno Bear) used a section of their wall at home to paint and spray paint the mural which includes the colours of the South African flag and a symbol of peace.

Brendan Lyle, Sinead Leth and Candice Leth are the family behind the Community Heroes mural.

Speaking to Highway Mail, Candice said the mural was completed within a few hours.

“We’ve seen the number of people come out and patrol the streets to protect the neighbourhoods from the violent unrest and we wanted to show our appreciation. The feedback from the community has been amazing and someone contacted me to ask if they could use the image on a poster which was put up in the Upper Highway area.

The mural has already been printed out and used in signs in the Upper Highway area.

“I’ve now gotten messages from people overseas who’ve also shared the photos and said how proud they are of the mural. Even my daughter, Sinead, helped out which was very special. We started the mural overnight and put the finishing touches on the piece the next day,” Leth said.
