Kearsney distances itself from Durban ‘looter’
The man was seen carrying a basket filled with goods from a store in Glenwood, that was busy being looted, before he fled the scene in a Mercedes-Benz.
A 26-YEAR-OLD man went viral on social media after he was seen allegedly looting a popular retail store before driving off in a Mercedes-Benz.
Social media speculation placed him as an Old Boy of Kearsney College and the Upper Highway school has debunked this rumour.
The first of two videos shows the man, whose name is known to the Highway Mail, but cannot be identified as he has not been formally charged, carrying a basket filled with allegedly stolen goods from the store in Glenwood.
While the man is one of thousands of looters seen in videos shared across various social media platforms, what stood out for most viewers was that he loaded a basket filled with goods into the boot of a Mercedes-Benz, before driving off.
The leader of the DA in eThekwini, Nicole Graham, shared a video of the incident on Twitter and asked for followers to help identify him.
The video was also shared across other platforms and it was speculated that the man was a Kearsney College Old Boy.
“A person by that name left Kearsney College in Grade 9… so he is not a Kearsney Old Boy,” said the school in a statement.

In another report, the man denied taking part in the looting and insisted he picked up a basket outside the store and loaded it with items found on the floor outside the store.
When the article went live, Graham responded by sharing a longer clip of the incident on Twitter.
Alongside the video, Graham tweeted, “Looted a (store), made up an elaborate lie about how he found goods outside (also a crime) and didn’t realise there was a longer video. Whoops.”
In the clip the man can be seen exiting the store with the basket of goods.
