A ride back in time with Inchanga Choo Choo

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, the status of the trains scheduled for July month-end is currently undecided.

FAMILIES and friends were excited to experience a three-hour journey on the Inchanga Choo Choo on Saturday, 26 June.

The train departed from the Kloof Station and travelled to the Inchanga Station where people spent one hour exploring the market and museum.

At the Inchanga Station, people were warmly welcomed before browsing through the market stalls which included toys, clothes, food, drinks, homemade crafts and books.

People came from as far as Kokstad and Empangeni to enjoy the journey back in time.

The Umgeni Steam Railway is a non-profit company run entirely by volunteers who maintain and operate the trains as well as the museum and archives. The organisation is dedicated to preserving the heritage of railways in South Africa.

Unfortunately, the Umgeni Steam Railway (USR) will no longer be offering July school special holiday trains in deference to the country’s Covid protocols.

The status of the trains scheduled for July month-end is currently undecided.

There are trains scheduled every month end from July onwards. The USR management will make a decision in due course as to when it is safe and appropriate for the trains to start running again.

USR sincerely apologises for the inconvenience and hopes to see patrons on the trains again as soon as it is safe to do so.
