Botha’s Hill music producer’s tunes spread joy

Mthokozisi Msomi was introduced to music production in high school.

MILE by mile one hits the milestone, is the motto Upper Highway upcoming music producer, Mthokozisi Msomi, lives by.

The Botha’s Hill resident’s love for music stemmed from his childhood but he was introduced to the production sphere at the age of 16 in high school.

Msomi will be releasing a song on Friday, 25 June, featuring Leeryle singer, Zinny, from Nigeria.

With no vocal ability to pursue singing and being too shy to perform for a crowd, Msomi started researching music productions.

“I learnt how it works and what I needed to start composing. In 2008 I started working from minimal workstations.”

After matric, 29-year-old Msomi said he bought some music gear and his producing journey picked up.

When asked about the meaning of music for him, Msomi said, “it means life. I can not imagine what I would be doing had I not started the journey. Music is like my energy source,” he said.

After completing matric, he studied technical support at Berea Technical College and later studied fashion at The Design School of Southern Africa.

Talking about the new single, Msomi said it has been in the pipeline for a few months now. The song is a love themed Afropop love song titled Healing.

“I have solid love for African music. I love happy music, and wanted to create a love song which can uplift people’s mood in a positive way.

Msomi said he also loves exploring and mixing different genres.

When asked about his creations, Msomi, who released a single ‘Moove’ in February, said, “I previously produced Lungi Naidoo’s single Hawu Lami which was my first mainstream placement in 2019. During lockdown last year, I mixed “Black lives matter”, Stardo Karle from London, which was close to my heart due to the many problems we face including gender-based violence.

“I previously produced Ndumiso- Ubuhle bakhe which recently started gaining airplay and I’m working on an E.P for 2022,” he added.

Apart from music, the upcoming producer said he enjoys watching soccer, movies and being out in the sun appreciating nature.

He added that his motivation comes mostly from the love people show towards his work.
