LOVING Waterfall couple, Terry and Margaret Cowan, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, 26 June.
They met at Margaret’s 21st birthday party through mutual friends and after dating for two years they were married at the Metro Methodist Church in Pietermaritzburg. Part of their honeymoon was a trip to Cape Town and back on the Edinburgh and Windsor Castle boats.

Trevor and Margaret share mutual interests especially outdoor activities such as hiking in the Berg and are still keen caravaners and campers.
Since Terry retired, they have undertaken a number of overland trips to Botswana and Zambia Game Reserves.
“We have also been fortunate to enjoy a number of overseas trips including cruises on various ships,” said Terry.
The couple set up their home in Pinetown in 1974 and happily resided there for 37 years and in 2011 moved to Waterfall Gardens.
Margaret trained as a teacher in Pietermaritzburg.
As their children got older she was able to go back to teaching and undertake locum teaching at a number of local schools.

After serving National Service in the Navy, Terry joined a well-known computer company in 1964 and trained as a computer technician.
The year 1977 saw them spending several months in Dayton, Ohio as Terry undertook additional training on mainframe computers. He worked for the same company for 40 years and retired at the end of 2003.
He still has a keen interest in anything mechanical or electrical and is involved with the maintenance team at Umgeni Steam Railway.
Terry said he considers himself fortunate to have met and fallen in love with Margaret. “I have always viewed our marriage as one of mutual love and respect for one another.

“Joint decision making is important and we share everything. There is no his or hers. If we do have the occasional difference of opinion, our love finds a way of resolving it,” said Terry.
Margaret said what she loves about her husband is that he is a capable man who puts family first.
“He is a hard working man and is able to fix and repair most things. Our grandchildren always say that their dad knows lots but grandpa knows how to fix everything,” smiled Margaret.
Their marriage has been blessed by their two children, Gavin and Carryn, and they have four beautiful granddaughters to spoil.
