Sardines swim south, confirms KZN Sharks Board
Netters took full advantage with a haul of approximately 11 nets in Port Edward, said acting HOD at KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, Greg Thompson.
SARDINES were spotted from Sezela right through to Winkle along the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Friday.
“These pockets do not seem to be as concentrated as the day before and are moving through on a slightly deeper line.
“Sharks were seen feeding on these pockets off Sezela this morning and gamefish were seen feeding on sardines off Umdoni Point at first light,” said acting HOD at KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, Greg Thompson.

“So far today there have been two nettings at Sezela and one Pennington,” added Thompson. After a week’s lull of sardine activity, the next wave of sardines arrived at Port Edward on Wednesday, 16 June.

“The netters took full advantage of the situation, with a haul of approximately 11 nets in this area. By Wednesday afternoon these pockets were already going past Southbroom Beach,” said Thompson.
Thompson said there were good concentrations of sardines scattered throughout the areas between Margate and Hibberdene on Thursday morning.
Large shoals of sardines enter the waters of southern KwaZulu-Natal during the winter months in the annual sardine run.
