Security company shares tips on how to respond during an armed robbery

Blue Security operations director, Brian Jackson said three armed men, pretending to be customers at a second-hand and budget goods store, produced a firearm and demanded laptops and cellphones.
“The suspects fled in a white Polo sedan. SAPS were in attendance and luckily there were no injuries or shots fired.”
Jackson said Covid-19 has caused malls to become quieter than usual in certain areas and times of the day.

“While we want to avoid other individuals to prevent infection, it is best to avoid too quiet or secluded spots, be it for shopping or outdoor activities,” he said.

He advised the public to follow these guidelines should they find themselves in the middle of an armed robbery:

– Remain calm and co-operate.
– Follow instructions but do not offer more than is asked for.
– If you need to reach into a pocket or bag to hand over an item, tell the person you will do this.
– Don’t argue.
– Don’t move suddenly.
– The best you can do is make mental notes of the robber’s appearance for later. Please pay attention to conversations/ names and what they do.
– After the robbery, get to a safe location and report the crime.
– Do not touch anything at the scene.
