Mozambique Spitting Cobra caught at Queensburgh home

Armed with a pair of tongs and a container lid as a shield, Nick Evans caught the highly venomous snake without being spat at.

LOCAL snake catcher, Nick Evans was called back to a Queensburgh home where two Black Mambas were caught fighting to retrieve a 1.3m Mozambique Spitting Cobra.

“My phone rang and I saw it was Wendy Jennings calling. When she, or her husband, Colin, phone, there’s an emergency,” said Evans.

During the Black Mamba removal, he found three large Mozambique Spitting Cobra skins, which he believed to be from one snake.

The cobra was spotted near the front door, an area usually occupied by the dogs. F

or the safety of his pets and the snake, Colin made the decision to rather have the reptile removed.

“When I arrived at their Queensburgh home, Colin was sitting on a chair with his glasses on and camera out as he kept tabs on the cobra. It was in a corner, hiding in a wood pile,” smiled Evans.

The snake catcher removed a few pieces of wood from the pile before he found the cobra curled up.

To ensure none of the venom from the snake landed on his fresh cuts, Evans utilised a container lid as a shield. He was able to successfully pin the snake down without being spat at. The venomous snake will be released soon.
