SOME deep digging was required by paddlers during this weekend’s iconic Bay Union King of the Bay Surfski race (4th of the Marine Surfski Winter Series).
The race is iconic as it is the only one where paddlers are allowed to paddle across Durban harbour as they head out for the open waters.

Brendon Waters (3rd year IIE Bachelor of Commerce The IIE’s Varsity College Westville) placed 10th in the 21km long course.
“The race was really fun through the harbour as the wind was behind me. However, coming back was tough as I had to paddle into the 25-knot headwind. Many paddlers could not finish the race due to the challenging weather conditions. I am happy that I completed the race with a decent result,” said Waters.
