Upper Highway NPO breaks ground for exciting ventures

The NPO’s vision is to install rainwater harvesting systems and ecotanks, extend, refurbish and equip the kitchen, upgrade the existing ablution facilities and extend the area to include more facilities as well.

AN exciting refurbishment project kicked off at Asivuke Community Centre in Embo on Monday, 17 May.

Hearts in Hands (HiH) founder, Tracy Klokie, who is helping drive this project, met with Asivuke representative, Abby Ndlovu to ‘break ground’. The ladies were joined by a team from Elangeni Buildings.

HiH has been very involved with the centre as they help feed 150 children from the surrounding Embo community each week.

The centre’s feeding scheme was started by Abby Ndlovu at the start of lockdown and they serve under the Asivuke NPO banner, an organisation set up by a taxi association in the area who wanted to help make a difference in the community.

Klokie said they were grateful for a wonderful donation from local company Real Telematics and the heart-warming community support.

“We now have the initial amount needed to kick off our plans to uplift this community centre by building a new kitchen, refurbishing the old structure and building proper ablution facilities for the children who attend the feeding scheme and wanted to get started to make phase one of this happen,” she said.

She added that they still need to raise money for their phase 2 project which is to help to fully equip the kitchen with appliances, shelving, sinks, utensils, crockery, gas, and JoJo tanks.

“We would also love to continue to provide food for the meals for the children who visit the centre and we would be so grateful to anyone who gets involved to help,” pleaded Klokie.
