SAPS seeks witnesses in Botha’s Hill cop killing

The policeman provided more than a decade of service to the Hillcrest community.

SERGEANT EB Smith was shot and killed in Botha’s Hill on Monday, 17 May while walking to his vehicle.

Hillcrest SAPS, where Smith was stationed, has called for witnesses to come forward.

The Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Linzi Smith described Sergeant EB Smith as a dedicated policeman who served the community for more than a decade. 

It is reported that the policeman was gunned down on Patna Road while walking to his car after visiting a friend while off duty.

He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

A case of murder has been opened at Hillcrest SAPS.

“We are pleading to any person who has any information to come forward. All information received can and will remain anonymous,” said Captain Linzi Smith.

“Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and the members of Hillcrest Police Station. He will be sorely missed,” she said.
