16 additional Covid-19 vaccination sites identified in Durban

Municipal spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, assured the public that the municipality and health department will ensure enough vaccines are available daily.

IN a bid to accelerate the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, the eThekwini Municipality has identified more public places for vaccination sites across the city.

This comes after the second phase of the vaccine rollout got off to a good start on Tuesday at People’s Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium, where residents, aged 60 and over, received their Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Municipal spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, said the city aims to vaccinate more than 19 000 residents per day.

“We have identified places for the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, currently targeting residents aged 60 years and older. We are assisting the Department of Health to accelerate the vaccination process,” Mayisela.

According to Mayisela, the city is aiming to vaccinate about 67 per cent of the elderly population in eThekwini.

Mayisela urged young people to assist elderly citizens with their registration for the vaccination.

“For vaccine appointments, one needs to call 0800 029 999. The identification number and location where one wants to be vaccinated will also be needed during the phone call,” he said.

Mayisela added that 2000 people can be vaccinated at sports grounds while halls can accommodate 600 people per day.

He assured the public that the municipality and health department will ensure enough vaccines are available daily.
