Pinetown New Year’s Eve road damage still unrepaired

Another challenge for residents on the road is the ongoing sewage leak.

ALMOST five months have passed, yet the damage caused by the heavy rain, on New Year’s Eve, on Gordon Road, has not been repaired. This has caused the road to slowly erode.

According to concerned residents, the intersection on Gordon Road, situated just off Stapleton Road, poses a huge risk for motorists and pedestrians.

“Most people are not familiar with this road and we are worried that a car will plunge off,” said resident, Mark Poland.

Another challenge for residents on the road is the ongoing sewage leak.

Speaking about the leak which is outside his house, Poland said, “Sometimes we have to endure a terrible stench for days as the plumbers respond after days. On Sundays we are told that the sewage department is closed and will only attend to it on Monday.”

What’s worse, the raw sewage runs straight to the river which runs along Stapleton Road.

According to residents, the issue of removing road material and tree branches, which are on the verge of falling into the river, has been reported on numerous occasions.

“They need to remove this rubble and erect barriers. It’s just simple, why does it have to take so long? When we enquire from the plumbers who eventually come out, we are always told that they are aware of this problem but nothing gets done,” he said.

Attempts to obtain a comment from the eThekwini Municipality proved futile at the time of going to print.
