Man sentenced to 10 years for Seaview armed robbery
Sipho Dubazane was arrested shortly after the incident with the victim's belongings still in his possession.
THE perseverance and dedication of a Bellair SAPS constable led to the successful conviction of 47-year-old Sipho Dubazane who robbed a woman of her belongings in Seaview in November 2020.
Dubazane was sentenced at the Durban Magistrate’s Court to 10 years imprisonment for the armed robbery.

According to the station communications officer, Sgt Pam Pillay, the victim was walking along a quiet road, accompanied by her young child, when she was accosted by the accused who pointed a knife at her and demanded her cell phone.
“Dubazane fled with the victim’s personal belongings. The community was alerted and the accused was soon arrested. He was still in possession of the stolen item and the knife that was used to commit the crime,” said Pillay.
Station Commander Lt/Col Radash Ramchunder applauded the diligent investigation by Cst Amos Sphakaniswa Bhengu.
“His commitment in securing the sentencing of the accused is also recognised as a fight in reducing crimes against vulnerable people,” said Ramchunder.
