Abandoned government car linked to Pavilion armed robbery

Police have since recovered two cars linked the robbery, a Polo Vivo, belonging to a government department, and a Peugeot which was reported stolen in Umbilo last month.

KZN police have confirmed that a car belonging to a government department was used in the armed robbery at the Pavilion Shopping Centre on Wednesday.

During the robbery, which resulted in a shootout, armed men fled with undisclosed amount of jewellery.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, police were patrolling on Harry Gwala Road when they spotted a vehicle on the street with its doors left wide open.

Mbele reported that upon investigation, the car was linked to a robbery at the Pavilion Shopping Centre.

“Police have so far recovered two cars used in the robbery, one car, a Polo Vivo, belonging to a government department and the other one, a Peugeot, was reportedly hijacked in Umbilo last month,” said Mbele.

What puzzled police, was that the Polo Vivo was not reported to have been stolen.

Westville SAPS are investigating charges of robbery, assault GBH and attempted murder.
