New Germany driver ‘robbed’ of R35 000, arrested for defeating the ends of justice

The driver and his two accomplices are expected to appear in court facing charges of armed robbery, defeating the ends of justice and perjury.

A NEW Germany truck driver, believed to be the mastermind behind an armed robbery, was arrested for defeating the ends of justice and perjury while his two accomplices were nabbed for armed robbery.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged that the 39-year-old driver delivered items to clients who sometimes paid cash.

“On 13 April, when the driver returned to his work place in Dinkelman Road, he was approached by two armed men, who fled with R35 000 cash and three cellphones.”

Manqele said an armed robbery case was opened at the station and upon the detective’s investigation it was discovered that the driver lied and was the mastermind behind the robbery.

“The three suspects, aged between 23 and 39, were arrested for armed robbery and defeating the ends of justice and perjury,” said Manqele.

They are expected to appear in court today, Monday, 26 April.
