THE funds donated by The Victor Daitz Foundation to build an ECD/Media Centre at Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre is a dream come true for the Malvern-based children’s home.
Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre, founded in 1907, is a children’s home focused on the full-time residential care and protection of 65 orphaned and vulnerable children aged between 18 months to 18 years.

The centre’s funding partnership manager, Nazley Giquel said the generous support from The Victor Daitz Foundation came at the most appropriate time when the country is facing a pandemic and there is a huge need for home-based and online learning support.
“The media centre will provide that for our older children, while the Early Childhood Development (ECD) classroom will support our pre-grade R readiness programme,” said Giquel.
Director, Vanessa Theophilus, conveyed a huge thank you to The Victor Daitz Foundation for sharing in their vision of creating a sustainable future for the children.

She added that this ECD/Media Centre will help children reach their full potential.
“At Ethelbert, we strive to ensure our children never feel disadvantaged by their circumstances, but rather compete on a level playing field to their peers,” she said.
The centre views this building as a legacy project which will benefit many children for years to come. The building is being constructed by Innovative Methology, a fellow non-profit company and public benefit organisation, headed by Pradeep Boodoo.
