Durban community joins hunger busting sarmie army

The Robin Hood Foundation has been hosting this project at Stokers every second week and the sandwiches are distributed to schools and feeding schemes.

A GROUP of dedicated volunteers joined The Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) to make more than 1200 sandwiches recently to send out with community partners to families in need.

Since February, The Robin Hood Foundation has been hosting a project at Stokers every second week, called the Sarmie Army, where volunteers prepare sandwiches from 150 loaves of bread per time.

“These sandwiches are distributed to schools and feeding schemes. Stokers has been generous with their hospitality and we really appreciate this partnership as well as the generosity of Baker Tilly Morrison Murray, Regal Meats and Bluff SuperSPAR this week for answering our appeal to help make a difference in our community,” said founder and chairperson of RHF, Cindy Norcott.

Stokers has been an amazing supporter of the Robin Hood Foundation in the past year.

“Even though they were closed for business for many months because of lockdown, owner, Guy Stone, was so enthusiastic for us to run our soup kitchen there for a period of four months where we made 500 litres of chicken stew per day,” said Norcott.
