KEARSNEY College was recently announced as the top performing school in KwaZulu-Natal in mathematics.

Following the announcement of the boys’ success in the 2020 Olympiad, Marc Ancellotti, the head of the mathematics department at the school, accepted the award from the South African Maths Olympiad.

The Olympiad was written over three rounds, with the best 100 senior and junior learners from the previous round qualifying for the third round.

In last year’s Independent Examination Board (IEB) matric results, Kearsney’s phenomenal average mark for mathematics was a distinction (80 percent and over). For the 10th consecutive year, the school’s mathematics distinction rate was at least double the average IEB rate.

Given the importance of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for study and career options, Kearsney’s headmaster, Elwyn van den Aardweg said the school continued to place importance on the success of its programme in mathematics and science excellence.
