WATCH: Kloof SPCA provides dog with new lease on life
When the dog was found, it was emaciated, covered in mange and was digging through garbage.
AFTER weeks of rehabilitation at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, Arnie is now available for adoption.
According to the local animal welfare’s Brigitte Ferguson, the male dog was found in lower Molweni by a member of the public who saw it scrounging through garbage at a dump site.
The dog was emaciated and, when the kind resident approached, saw it had mange and there was a large rope attached to the dog’s neck.

“Possibly he had broken free from being tied up,” said Ferguson.
The man contacted the Kloof and Highway SPCA and field officer, Doctor Mthombeni, attended the scene.
Mthombeni coaxed Arnie into his vehicle and was taken to the animal shelter.

“The clinic staff assessed Arnie’s health and condition and began the necessary treatment. Petrified of humans, Arnie could not bring himself to be touched and stroked. The staff spent many days gaining his trust and building up his confidence. Gradually he ventured out his kennel,” said Ferguson.
With the correct food, combined with skin medication, he has undergone a major transformation.
“Arnie is a special boy and needs a home. He is very strong and walks and runs well on a lead.”
“He needs a family who understand they will never know what truly happened to this boy. We do not recommend young children or cats and he would be best suited as an only dog or with a slow introduction. He is intelligent and responds to commands. These specifics may put many people off, but Arnie is worth all this effort,” said Ferguson.
