Olivia lines up shot for golf tourney

St Mary's DSG, Kloof's SPAR Star of the Month - March 2021.

OLIVIA Wood is St Mary’s DSG, Kloof’s high school SPAR Star of the Month.

The Grade 9 learner was selected by the KwaZulu-Natal Ladies Golf Association to be a part of the KZN Senior women’s Golf Squad for 2021.

Should she qualify for the tour, she will be in line to represent KZN in the 72-hole Team Champs that will be held in late April. She will represent the province in the South African Inter Provincial Championships that will take place later this year.

Olivia started golf lessons at about the age of six but has been going to the driving range with her dad from the time she was four years old.

“My most memorable golfing moment was at the Nedbank Golf Challenge when I met the winner of the tournament, Tommy Fleetwood in 2019,” said Olivia.

When we asked her about her favourite golf course, she was quick to respond with Mount Edgecombe’s The Lakes (course two). ” This is because I don’t play that course very often, but my home course, Umhlali Country Club, is the one that I know best,” she said.

The school’s locum marketing and communications administrator, Julia De Waal said they were eagerly waiting to find out if Olivia has qualified for the April tournament.
