MICHAEL Fourie is Westville Senior Primary School’s SPAR Star of the Month.
The Grade 6 learner is a polite, cheerful and tackles all aspects of life with enthusiasm. His teachers described him as being diligent and consistent in his studies.
This mature approach has stood him in good stead over the four years during which he has attended Cubs. Michael was recently awarded the Leaping Wolf badge, which is the final and most challenging badge that can be awarded to a Cub.
Among the many tasks that need to be completed to achieve the Leaping Wolf, Michael became an expert at knotting, grew a vegetable garden at home, built a shelter and slept in it with a friend, studied bird identification, learnt how to make a fire and put it out, did a course in First Aid and set himself a personal challenge of doing a 5km run.
In total, Michael completed 48 of the 52 badges that can be awarded to a Cub. Michael excels at academics, is a keen cricketer and golfer and is well liked by his peers. When he finishes school, he would like to study archaeology.
