Unreliable water supply raises concerns for Queensburgh Cheshire Home

Ever since the massive breakdown, which left much of Shallcross without water for over a week, Northdene residents have had intermittent water service.

NORTHDENE residents have been enduring a water supply crisis for over a month, and are often left without water for days.

The Queensburgh Cheshire Home, which cares for physically disabled adults is no exception.

“When we have a water supply problem it quickly becomes a crisis,” said the home’s Brian Rossenrode.

“Our residents cannot be properly cared for when there isn’t water.  We are fortunate to have a swimming pool on the property from which we can take water to flush toilets but without clean drinking water residents can’t take medication and food cannot be prepared,” he said.

The situation has grown so dire that residents have threatened to launch a service delivery protest.

“We can’t really speak about it right now,” said Zane Mc Dermott last week when Queensburgh News visited him and neighbour, Megan Laredo, about a story in next week’s paper (look out for it from 23 March when it hits the streets.)

“Families are getting angry, rightly so as we have been in this situation now for many weeks and it effects a large area from beyond Cheshire Home where disabled people live and need to be cared for, to where the school in Northdene is,” said Laredo.

Assistant manager Lyn Ramsey-Boyd spoke in the video clip below about how many problems are caused due to the lack of water.

Attempts to obtain a comment from the city proved futile.
