Botha’s Hill teen aims for pageant crown

The 14-year-old has chosen to support three local charities that are near and dear to her heart.

CHANÉ Steyn, a bold and daring teen from Botha’s Hill, has made the finals for Mini Miss Teen South Africa 2021 and has called on Highway residents to help support her three local charities of choice.

With her name among the 25 finalists in her category, Steyn was quick to choose the charities that were both close to her heart and work in the area she resides: Trinity Outreach Program, the Friends of K9 Trust and Animal Antics Pet Rescue.

The 14-year-old is currently in Grade 10 at Gelofte Skool in Pinetown and, in her spare time, brushes up on her modelling skills at the Shadows School of Modelling and Deportment and works alongside Studio 3 Model Management and Casting Agents. It was through her agents she learned of the pageant and was only too excited at the opportunity to enter.

Not new to the limelight, Steyn started her modelling career when she was six years old and won two titles, including the 1st Princess Miss Valentines 2013 and the Miss Charity Valentine. This year she entered the Miss Main Stage Queen 2021 Photographic Pageant and was awarded the 1st Princess Miss Main Stage Queen 2021 in the 12 to 14 age category.

“Trinity Outreach Program cares for people in my community that either lost their jobs or even their breadwinner due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I know a few people that are struggling and this made me get involved and assist our community struggling in these hard times,” said the caring teen.

Her family have been long-time supporters of the Friends of K9 Trust and Animal Antics Pet Rescue and Steyn said she wanted nothing more than to use this platform to raise much-needed awareness and support for the work done by both of the non-profit organisations.

While she is nervous to compete at the finals in October this year, she said it was the support she has continued to received from her family and friends that has kept her ensured she also remains excited for what is to come.

“This is my first really big pageant and I know that I will do my best! If I am crowned, I plan to use my title to raise awareness that no matter where you come from or what our circumstance, you are beautiful and that you can make a difference in your community. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible,” said Steyn.

To assist with donations, either monetary or in-kind, for any of the three charities Steyn is supporting on her road to the finals, contact her mom, Sonel, via email at sonel.steyn1979@gmail.com.
