Kloof SPCA calls for aid to build shelter for 35 confiscated donkeys

The donkeys were confiscated by SAPS and signed over to the National Council of SPCAs.

THIRTY five donkeys have been signed into the care of the Kloof and Highway SPCA and the animal welfare has called on the community for urgent help to ensure the donkeys have a suitable home.

The donkeys will be collected by the local SPCA today. The herd was confiscated by SAPS and signed into the care of the National Council of SPCAs.

“We need to build a shelter for them as there will be 17 adults and 18 foals, who will need shelter for themselves and their food and water,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s manager, Barbara Patrick.

To build this the NPO needs suitable gum poles, roofing for the two 16m x 4m shelters as well as marine ply board for three sides of the shelter.

“Our current electric fencing needs to be repaired and in 100 per cent working order as donkeys can escape,” she said.

Hay will also be needed to feed the 35 donkeys. She said donations of the above items or a financial contribution towards the purchase of the items was also welcome.
