Robbers steal pension payout money in Botha’s Hill

The unknown men instructed the supervisor to open the safe doors where the Sassa money was being stored for pension payout.

A GROUP of armed men fled with an undisclosed amount of money from a Botha’s Hill shop on Tuesday, 2 March.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Capt Linzi Smith, the incident happened at the end of the business day.

“Door were closed and there were still customers inside finishing their shopping.”

Smith reported that an unknown man approached the supervisor and threatened her with a small firearm.

“He instructed her to open the safe doors where the Sassa money was being stored for pension payout. This suspect was then accompanied by another man who then took a undisclosed amount of cash from the safe.

“They also instructed her to open the second safe were the store cash was kept. The suspects took another large amount of cash,” said Smith. 

During the incident, two other unknown suspects stayed with the security guard on duty.

In a separate incident yesterday, Wednesday, 3 March, four unknown men dressed in police uniform and fled with R500 000 cash and R50 000 worth of cigarettes from a Pinetown store.

No one has been arrested for both these incidents and Smith has urged anyone who has any information with regards to these cases to contact Hillcrest Police Station on 031 765 9140 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
