#MatricResults2020: Hillcrest High matrics attain impressive results

Of the 203 matrics who wrote the NSC examinations, 245 subject distinctions were achieved.

DESPITE all the challenges faced last year, Hillcrest High School is proud of its matric results.

The Class of 2020 achieved a 96.6 per cent pass rate (compared to the national pass rate of 76,2 per cent) and a 71.4 per cent bachelor pass rate (compared to the national average of 36.4 per cent).

Of the 203 matrics who wrote the NSC examinations, 245 subject distinctions were achieved, with seven learners each achieving six distinctions, eight learners achieved five distinctions each and 11 students achieving four distinctions each.

Hillcrest High top achieving learner in the NSC examinations, Joshua Cameron, achieved a 89.9 per cent aggregate, second position went to Warren Searle with an 88.3 per cent aggregate, and third was a tie with Emma Hodgson and Vachariya Naidoo each achieving an 87.7 per cent aggregate.

Vachariya was also selected last year as Highway Mail’s SPAR Star of the Month overall winner for her efforts of community service.

Headmaster, Craig Girvin said he was enormously proud of their 2020 matric results.

“Our matrics and their teachers have demonstrated resilience and determination in overcoming the challenges of 2020 and, together, have produced these very pleasing results.

“I wish to thank our staff, in particular, for the way in which they adapted to last year’s very different teaching environment. They, and our matrics, have exemplified our school theme, ‘If it is to be, it is up to me’,” said Girvin.
