Daughter’s ashes stolen during Everton home robbery

A local mom has requested her daughter's ashes be returned to her, no questions asked.

AN Everton mom is heartbroken after her daughter’s ashes were stolen during a recent home robbery and has pleaded for their return.

Her home was burgled on Saturday, 6 February.

While numerous items were taken, including electronics, linen, leather bags and shoes, clothing and perfume, the grieving mom, Kerry Shannon, said all of it was replaceable, except her daughter’s ashes.

“The ashes could have been mistaken as a jewellery box, as they are in a little sealed plain wooden box, approximately 18cm (length), by 7cm (width) by 7cm (height). With a white sticker on the outside with her name,” said the 55-year-old.

One of the cellphones that was stolen during the robbery was also filled with videos and photos of her daughter, treasured and irreplaceable memories.

Her daughter passed away at the age of 24.

“I am heartbroken that her ashes were stolen! Please, if anyone knows about this incident, I want her ashes back. Please place them back on the gate where the robbery occurred, or hand them in at the SMG Toyota Hillcrest’s security guard, with attention Kerry. No questions asked at all!” she pleaded.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Captain Linzi Smith, said the case has been allocated to an investigating officer and members of the local task team are working on it.

At present no arrests have being made.

“I wish to apologise for the extreme trauma that this complainant has had to endure. No words I say will ease her pain of losing her daughter’s ashes. We are pleading to members of the community who may have any information on this case to come forward,” said Smith.
