“Do not leave valuables in plain view. Many people leave handbags, laptops, wallets and cellphones in plain sight and think that they are just going to pop into the store for a few minutes. But, that’s all it takes,” she said.

Smith also urged residents to be more vigilant and report any crime that occurs.

“The community needs to be aware that failure to report crime will result in us not knowing where we need to patrol and post members,” she said.

She appealed to the community to work hand-in-hand with the police so that crime can be decreased.

Any criminal activities can be reported anonymously if they do wish to do so by calling the Crime Stop tip-off line on 08600 10111.
