Share some warmth this winter with Upper Highway NPO

The Waterfall Pantry outreach project has called on knitters to help spread some love this chilly winter season by knitting up a storm.

SINCE her massive drive for knitted goodies for those in need last year, Waterfall’s supermom, Laura Cullum, has called on the Highway community to support her 2021 winter drive.

It has been 18 months since Cullum launched the Waterfall Pantry outreach project and, as the chilly season slowly creeps in, she wants be proactive.

“The Upper Highway community is in great need of assistance for warm items during winter, so we try to supply each person with a new knitted beanie and a new pair of socks,” she said.

With the help of knitters across the greater Highway area, Cullum is hoping to collect more than 2 848 pairs of socks and an equal number of beanies.

Among the list of non-profit organisations that will receive the handmade items include the Siyajabula Trust Orphanage in Crestholme, the El Gibbor Feeding Scheme in Pinetown, the Angels Care NPO and various old ages homes across the Highway area.

“We are appealing to the community to either purchase beanies or socks, or knit and crochet them if you can. Another thing that can be done is to donate wool to the residents who are knitting. Warmth, to many, is a luxury we don’t even notice we naturally have. To many in need, it’s a dire necessity they cannot afford,” she said.

Cullum noted that while the total figure looked daunting, the amount needed would only scratch the surface.

Donations for goods can be dropped off in Pinetown, Waterfall, Forest View and in Cowies Hill.

For details on each drop off site, contact Laura on 084 885 3905 or join the public Facebook group, Waterfall Pantry.
