Pinetown hair salon crippled by break-in

The salon was forced to close as most of its equipment was stolen and a gaping hole was left in the roof of the building.

A GROUP of criminals smashed through the roof of a home-based hairdresser, in Josiah Gumede Road (Old Main Road) in Pinetown, and stole equipment worth thousands of Rands, yesterday morning.

According to Andreas Mathios of ProAct Neighbourhood Watch, it was vagrants who entered the stand-alone salon building.

It is believed they climbed over the resident’s perimeter wall before they removed the tiles from the roof of the building.

They then kicked in the ceiling boards and ransacked the salon.

“Hairdressing equipment, including heavy duty hair dryers, hairdresser combs and all professional scissors (valued at R5000 each) were taken,” said Mathios.

The thieves are also believed to have stolen pink, white and black salon towels.

“This has crippled the only income of this salon. This hairdresser has now been forced to close her doors until she can recoup her losses to start up again from scratch,” he said.

The men fled into a nearby green strip and are still at large.
