"I have reported the matter to the parks department, but nothing has been done."

FOLLOWING the damage caused by New Year’s Eve storm, an Ashley resident has called for the Parks and Recreation Department to trim the trees hanging over the cables and roads.

On 1 January, the City’s disaster management department was inundated with calls and requests to clear roads and fallen trees in various parts of Durban, including the Pinetown and Upper Highway areas.

Derrick Pitt said heavy rains would wreak havoc.

“I have reported the matter to the parks department, but nothing has been done. Should these overhanging tree branches fall and cause serious damage, who will pay?” asked Pitt.

The Highway Mail did not receive a response from the eThekwini Municipality by the time of going to print.
